CCAC is not a Diploma Program, its ADN program, UPMC shadyside is a hospital Diploma program. it does not matter how they are viewed in the professional field if you graduate and pass the state boards you are looked at as an RN no matter where you went to school. They might view the degree more than the diploma or vise versa, just like some may view a BSN better than ADN and vise versa.
im going to CCBC(beaver county) i did apply to shadyside and to mee it seemed like a very good school.
Hi Karen, I'm a new student (starting later this month) at Shadyside, but I did all my pre-req's at a community college here in Ohio. The cc was like ccac in that its R.N. program was an ADN program where as Shadyside is a diploma. As far as I can tell so far, this is no difference between the diploma and ADN. Both will prepare you to take the NCLEX. With an ADN program you will have more gen ed requirements (ie psych, english, etc). Of course, if you were to choose Shadyside, you would have the opportunity of going to school for free if you wanted to work for them afterwards, which is not something that CCAC can offer. Good luck in making your decision

Hello everyone,
I am currently taking Pre-nursing courses (Microbio, A&P, etc) at CCAC. I work full-time and have to go to Nursing school in the evenings and on the weekends.
This leaves me 2 options for my RN in Pittsburgh, CCAC school of Nursing and UPMC Shadyside.
Is anyone on the boards aware of which is a better Nursing school or how they are viewed in the professional field?
I am leaning toward CCAC due to it being a diploma program and not a certificate, but I want to get more info first.
Thanks in advance for any info/advice,
Karen
