Future Medical Assistant! Any advice

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hello everyone I have decided to go ahead and do medical assistant program at a school where financial aid covers everything! I am beyond excited to start and I know it is not much but in the future I do want to pursue onto bigger things in the medical field. So does anyone have any advice for the what I having should expect in the program, what careers I should look into, what other careers will MA help me on, and if phlebotomy is a good certificate to also have after becoming a medical assistant?

Specializes in I am student.

I've been a CMA since 2019, and I enjoy my profession, however if you want to be a nurse someday, skip the MA and go directly for the RN. I also have a given the CMA Certification exam I'm sorry I didn't. I was informed that MA was very comparable to nursing, and then I was told that I couldn't work in hospitals, which was my aim, halfway through the two-year degree. This September, I will begin my RN programme. Best of luck in whichever path you decide to choose!

I went through an MA program a few years ago. Do you eventually want to be a nurse? If so...be an LPN. I start LPN school next month and I wish I would have done that first. Where I live the MA program and LPN program both take 10 months and cost the same.

What justpeachykeen said, and you will likely make at least $10 more an hour with the potential to make more if you go the LVN/LPN route for just a few more months of education.
