Future LPN student

Hey guys, my name is Ashley and I'm 18 years old. I have a 4 month old son who I want nothing but the best for. I'm currently waiting on a letter of acceptance or, hopefully not denial, from my local University. I have to get my prerequisites done before applying for the LPN program at my local tech school. The deadline is February 15th and I'd start that fall.

I'd love to be a nurse, really I would. But to be honest, I'm absolutely terrified of what clinicals are like during school. Yes, I know I will see and deal with many things I don't want to. But my dream IS to be a nurse! So I had a few questions for you guys-

1. What exactly happens or goes on during clinicals?

2. How many hours/weeks of clinicals did you have to complete?

3. Is changing a poopy brief as bad as it sounds?

4. Did you get to partner up with someone during clinicals?

5. How many patients were you assigned to?

6. What was your daily routine?

Thanks guys! I REALLY want to do this, and I don't want the thought of wiping someone's butt to turn me away. I know I'll have to overcome this.

I'm 18 yrs old and (hopefully) start prerequisites this fall for an LPN program. I'm so scared I won't be able to handle it. I have a 4 month old son and I want the best for him. My dream is to be a nurse. But I am TERRIBLE at math.. I dropped out of highschool after my freshmen yr and got my GED. How will I make it through pharmacology when I'm terrible at math? Can I overcome changing poopy diapers of the elderly? I have compassion and want to help people. My Grandmother passed away last January and she's my motivation. I'm so thankful for the nurses who were passionate towards her.

My best advice is just take it one day at a time. At clinicals you will have an instructor with you. And poop can be bad...but you are a mom. You got this :-P

Haha thank you! You're right, I've dealt with some pretty bad blowouts... lol.

I will be honest nursing school is tough, but the math is not all that hard. If you can do simple division and multiplication you will be fine! They use big hard to pronounce words but if you can look beyond that you will see it really is simple. Dont not pursue something because you are scared, and if you TRULY believe failure isnt an option then you wont fail.

P.S. If you have a four month old you can handle change poopy diapers ;) you will be fine! If you have the compassion to treat your patients with respect you will get over it.
