I am starting Nursing school in January (BSN). I am wondering if I am going to be able to handle a part-time job. Like 20 to 30 hours a week. Thanks
I thought I read somewhere that there are some of the old ammortizable nursing loans out there again, due to the nursing shortage...which we all know doesn't really exist except in that nurses leave the force because of the poor culture...but that is another blog isn't it...
I was one of the lucky ones I guess--back in the 70's when loans were 'forgiven at 10-15% yearly for each you worked full time after graduation...that was only for my undergraduate degree, but it really helped! I still worked the three pms per week through school, but it could have been worse. What about starting nursing 'community homes' for low cost housing that supports nurses who are struggling with $$$ of work and school??? I had friends who did that (on their own) and it was really fun and cost effective for them. (Just thinking back to my younger days....)
i am i full time student in a BSN program and i am currently working part time (about 15 hours/week) but i know some people in my class are working 30-40 hours/week. they say it is hard but know they must work to pay bills...it is not impossible. try going to school for about a month and figure out what your schedule is like before getting too busy with both a job and school

i work two part-time jobs and i am in fourth semester. i have done this throughout nursing school. the only thing that kills me are the summers when both part-time jobs are full-time and i take a class or two to take. yes, my summers are full of lack of sleep and lots of stress, but it is almost over!!!
i can finally work one job and have a little left over to enjoy (actually i will be working at least one pt job to help pay off old student loans once i graduate).
