I'm looking to put together stories about full moons and patients. Everyone seems to have some and there really does seem to be something to the full moons effect on patients.

This may seem unbelievable, but this is an honest account of a full moon night at a LTC I used to work at when I was a nursing assisstent:

I was working the night shift with one other nursing assistant and 2 LPNs. I had pt ring her call light several times saying there was a man in her room. Upon investigation, of course there was noone else in her room but for her roommate reading in the next bed. It was hard to reassure her, however. She had dementia, and often claimed to see things that were not there, although she had never been so upset before, and had never seen something so frequently in a short time span. She finally fell asleep, and we prepared for another quiet night. About an hour later, her call light went off again. This time it was her roommate. She was so apologetic, knew we had been in there a dozen times already, but could we please pick her glasses up off of the floor, as they had slipped out of her hands. Now I need to tell you that this pt is perfectly together in her mental faculties, and both pts are bedbound from recent hip surgeries. Well, I looked on the floor...no glasses. Under the bed, in the bedding, the other nursing assisstant helping, could not find these glasses anywhere! I knew she had them, I saw them on her face the dozen other times I had been in the room. Couldn't find the darn things!

Then for some strange reason, I checked her glasses case on the OTHER side of the room where she could not reach. There were the glasses! Noone had been in this room besides these 2 bedbound women, myself and the other girl I was working with, and she hadn't placed the glasses there. Unless you count the "man " who kept coming in earlier for her roommate to see... :uhoh3: :uhoh3: :uhoh3:

During my ER rotation in nursing school we had a full moon, and this guy comes in complaining of severe back pain from a fall at a bar he was at.

Okay..this guy was wearing a purple cape, satin yellow shirt, multicolored hair, pink leather pants...and as I found out later...underroos! (those from the 70's will remember them! We are talking spiderman underoos!). Not to mention that..he was covered...I mean COVERED in multicolored sequins EVERYWHERE which he guled on with super glue!

He was a character to say the least...really didn't act drunk or drugged out...very rational (which was the scary part). Then all the sudden he got faint....and then said...

"Maybe I should loose the butt plug huh?" Okay that would explain much! So we did ask that he did..and down when the pink leathers, the underoos and 'thump' down on the floor. If that wasn't enough..it was vibrating and dancing all over the exam room floor...we ALL LOST IT!

We gave him some toridol for his back pain...and some colace for any 'compaction' this may have caused and asked for him to talk to his PCP if he was unable to have a BM within a day or too. (of course that lead into him telling us everything about his daily BM's...uhhhgggggg!).

We all agreed...full moon fever..and not only did we get a glance at a 'full moon'...but a vibrating "as*"teroid as well...ROFLOL!
