Full course load during summer?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I want to take two classes during the summer, they are both difficult. Anatomy and physiology II and math, both would be three hours a piece, four days a week. I also have a baby whom is currently two and a half months old right now, by may 31st he would be 6 months. I am breastfeeding and do still want to continue for at least a year, does this sound feesable? Am I going in over m head by being away for 6-7 hours at a time? I am not working now and am with him all day, will it be too difficult to study for so much compacted coursework with a baby? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It is for sure possible. Do you have a support system? I am assuming you have already take A&P I, so you know what to expect from that class and the time needed. I would say that since you do not have to work you could manage these 2 classes. Time management is key, and make sure you have some family or close friends for support. Your baby is still tiny, but still requires a lot of time. Good Luck

I think it is a bad idea. At my school an overload waiver is needed for greater that 18 hours in the normal school year and 6 hours in the summer. This would make me assume that your seven credits would feel like 21, and thats just too much unless you are a very strong student.

That being said I took A&P 1&2 over the summer (we have 2 sessions) and didnt find it very difficult, so that and another class is possiable, just might be a very stessful summer.

I have taken up to 9 credit hours in the summer, and I am not a genious or anything, so it is possible. Just my two cents.

I took A&P 1 and 2 last summer, but my school divides summer session into two parts. I think it depends on what type of student you are and how much time you can study at home. For me, A&P required a lot of at home study, but math doesn't. It's always good to find out from other students at your school what the classes are like. My A&P class was all tests, while the other class had to write a 50 page term paper (in a shortened summer session!).

Sure its possiable to get it done (I took 8 hours), but when grades matter so much is it wise to jam thru things? I dont know about you, but anything other than an A would kill my GPA.

Thats a really bad idea....ill give you some good reasons... most people have a hard time just taking ap by itself.. the drop out rate is extremely high.. now you are putting THAT class in the SUMMER where you get HALF the time and still the same amount of work.. then add that to a Math class.. you will be getting test every week i bet.. thats extremely time consuming and a daunting task.. if i were you id take math in the fall. math is something you need to completely understand but not a primary priority. as long as you take it before you graduate you are fine. im taking anatomy right now... i study 5 hours a day. i can only imagine how many more hours ill be studying in the summer. get your sciences done first since those are the classes that harder to get into. thats just my opinion

You should also consider the amount of time you will need to spend outside of class to be successful. Not only will you be in class 24 hours per week for lecture, you will also have to allot time for homework assignments and studying.

Only you know if you can handle this load. You have to really evaluate your time management skills and comfort with the material. I think it is definitely doable but you have to be disciplined and have a support system for those days that require a little more time from you. (e.g. studying for midterms, difficult concepts, etc)

Good luck!
