Hi! I am currently an animal nurse but I am interesting in starting a Certified Nursing Program in Ft. Lauderdale. I am looking for advice and/or suggestions as to schooling and/or programs in the area. I am new to this field and I am unsure as to where to start.
Thanks in advance,
Heather:)

Hey Animlnrs
I take it you're a 'vet tech' or something similar? There ARE of course RNs working in veterinary offices. But you didn't specify your background so I guess your questions are 'how do I get started in nursing school?' and 'does my work with animal care give me any advantages'?
Well--the three obvious things to check out are LPN programs thru Vocational Education in your county school system, Associate Degree programs in the nearest community college or a Bachelors in Nursing at a College or University. You can check these out yourself because--hey! you found us here.
Will your veterinary background help you out? Have you taken any college courses to get where you're at? If so--they might transfer at a CommCollege or University. But I doubt that a Nursing School would give you any credit toward your clinicals.
Good Luck

Thank you so much for your response! I see you are in Tampa..are you aware of any CNA schools in Ft. Lauderdale for me to attend and what are the most important questions I should ask when I find these schools.
I know there are about 5 programs close by and tons more around, but I want to make sure that I am receiving the proper training and that the programs are legitatmate.
Thanks in advance
Hey Again Anmlnrs!!
CNA is a good place to start if you're interested in a career doing this some-times-strange but almost always interesting work. I'm afraid I don't have good advice on how to get into a CNA program where you live. In Tennessee, my Mrs took a CNA class at a nursing home in exchange for a 6month committment. I don't think that's available in FLA. I'd suggest that you call the County School Board--ask about Vocational-Adult Ed programs. If they don't teach them they would surely give you the number of people who do.
Again, Good Luck

I heard Cleveland clinic in Weston has a program similar to CNA but they call it PCT or PCA (patient care tech/patient care asst). You can check their website. I know National School of Technology has CNA progam too.
