Hi, I'm a new nurse (1yr) who has posted on here a few times and really
enjoy the topics discussed so I have been curious about whether anyone
else has experienced this. Alot of my patients have tubes (nephrostomy,
PEGs, etc.) and I often get really annoyed with hassle of trying to figure
out what bag goes with what tube or figuring out if all the sizes fit with different parts.
Writing this down it does seem silly but when I am running around on a
hectic night with limited resources and heavily dependent patients, it
really gets to me.
I suppose with experience these are things that I will learn but I find that
these other type issues really complicate matters and set the tone.

If you think it will help, then write it down. Maybe write the reference number of the bag, and then write down the reference number of the tube that goes with it?

When it is quiet you might want to check out the supply room and that way get a feel for the different types of supplies. On the bag or box there should be a description of what it is. That way when you have a pt. with a nephrostomy, ng tube, etc. you will be somewhat familiar with what goes with what.
