I am a new student at wcccd. I transferred in all my pre-req's except I took psychology at Wcccd along with 3 other classes that were co-req's for my 12 credits. I recieved an A in psy a B in Patho a B in Nutrition and an A in Soc. Also I registered for eng 119 just in case my credits didnt transfer in time but they did so I dropped eng 119. My question is with the new nursing pt system, how will my gpa be calculated. I only have 1 pre-req that I took over here, and I heard they don't give you grades for the transfer credits. So how would I be scored. would they look at my co-req's too. I need to know something before I consider to apply. Also is the g.p.a of pre-req's just based on the 5 pre-req's or will the points be given from the cumulative gpa. I hope this isn't confusing, just am thinking faster than my hands can type.

They are correct in saying they don't give grades for transfer credits in the matter that your GPA when you start @ this new school will be a blank slate. Just because you went to school A, B or C when you come to school D your GPA will start all over again.
It depends on the system if they look @ cumulative GPA or just the pre-req GPAs. Many school just look @ pre-req GPAs and your entrance exam score. If you're applying to nursing school, they'll calculate your GPA from the required pre-req courses. So for example, if they ask for PSY, BIO 201, BIO 202, and ENG 101 then no matter what school you attended, they'll look for those specific courses, the grade you received and calculate it from there.

Your post is bit confusing, but I will do my best to help. Most nursing programs only consider your required related courses. Your transfered credits do count unless they have determined otherwise. The best advise I can give to you is, retrieve a copy of all your transcripts and take them to the prospective nursing program. Ask them how do you stand as far as being accepted into the program.
Thanks for the reply's. Yes wcccd requires 5 pre-req's to apply. I was a little confused but now I understand that they still give you a grade for your transfer credits but it doesnt add into your gpa. If anyone else who has particularly went through wcccd application process, any info will be helpful?

At my program they do use the grades from transfered classes in competitive entry to calculate your points. They do not use the grades from transfered classes towards your GPA.
