Frustrated...Is it even worth it??

I am thinking about just giving up on nursing. All the schools are changing admittance, it is even harder (and longer) to get in. Community colleges are revamping. I was going to try and get into Pickens Tech, work as an LPN and finish my RN, but now they are accepting applications any more. They are making tons of changes. I don't want to put myself and my family into a huge amount of debt going to DSON or another private school. I would consider it IF I knew it would pay off in the end. But it seems like NO ONE is hiring new grads. Why spend $40,000 or more to still be jobless. I have a crappy job now, but at least I have a job. What happened to the nursing shortage? They big need, the demand, for nurses? Why should I bother? I am thinking about going into another health related field, like rad tech or respiratory therapy. I am not sure what I should do. Anyone else give up, or thinking about it?
