From Florida to Abilene TX Hendrick - for ICU intern/exp

Published

Hi everyone! Well, I am ORIGINALLY from Chicago. I currently live in Florida where I have been for 7 years and I HATE THIS PLACE!!! I been with the same hospital system as a CNA to nurse for the entire time, and between wage freezes and hiring freezes and the housing going UP, it is horrendous!!! However I am in my bachelor...done in 4 months. Have a second phone interview Hendrick...and am EXCITED!!! It is a decent amount per hour, more than I get here in Fort Myers FL and it is in the ICU which I need as a one year nurse, onboarding internship...and I want the one year experience to get into CRNA school...Once there, I want to move to CALI, which is my dream home and where I will live for my life! I have a 5 year old and I saw they have a couple good private catholic schools and I am almost sold....I would be moving for experience only and then heading to bigger and better things!

Any advice for intern in ICU??? Positive experiences in ICU at Hendricks?

Word to the wise.... do NOT tell anyone you are just using the job as a stepping stone for bigger and better things. This will not go over well with your new colleagues. The transition into critical care can be rough, and you need all the cooperation you can get from co-workers.

You will be thrilled about housing prices in Abilene - nice small city and close enough to drive to DFW for a taste of the big city.

Thank u. I understand very well not to say to collegues. Believe me. Been in healthcare 11 years.

I'm just making sure I'm making a good decision for my 5 year old and in a safe area with stability. Safe...u know the important things with kids/family.

Anyway...I so appreciate that. Being from Chicago knowing city is not too far is nice to know.

It sounds like a great opportunity..BUT I must warn you. Abilene is an awful place to live. Ultra conservative, religiously oppressive. If you are not baptist or church of christ..you are treated like a disease. The public school system is abysmal. Look to the Wylie ISD. Do NOT be fooled by any private school in Abilene. WISD is superior indeed to any of these. I strongly advise...no I BEG of you...visit Abilene before accepting the opportunity. If you can stomach it, by all means..take the offer! Best of luck either way.

We are Catholic. Are there any areas around it ok to live besides? We are looking for Catholic schools.

Thank you
