Hi there, does anybody know how I would go about qualifying as a nurse in California?
I qualified in the early 80's as a specialist pediatric nurse in the UK. I guess my concern is I may have trouble locating my training transcripts as the records are not generally kept too long. At the moment I have come to a number of dead ends. The good news is I have all the other information which shows I am a qualified nurse. Just nothing to show how I qualified during the training.
Any ideas or help would be neat. Any publications around?
Thanks and what a great site.

Did you have rotations in adult, and mental health as well? If not you will be required to complete those areas in an approved school of nursing program.
You will not be able to submit any of the records that you actually have on hand, they have to come directly from your school. In the UK I believe that your licensing authority has a copy of them, or should.
Please see my sticky posted under the international section to see all of the requirements that you will need to meet.
And good luck..................plus welcome to the BB. :balloons:

He qualified as a specialist nurse in the UK. They are not accepted for licensure in the US until they have completed the appropriate amount of hours in mental health, maternal health, etc. A green card will not be issued without, also the BON will not permit the nurse to sit for NCLEX without.
Oh, I think I get it.
We are particularly on need of pediatric nurses so hope he can become elogible ASAP.
Australia and the UK have gone to specialist type training. The US requires that the nurse be a generalist with training in all areas. This has been a major concern of nurses from the UK and Australia who wish to work in the US.

It would be good to work this out.
I know I wam not nearly competent to care for children, labor & delivery and such.
For most hospitalized adults I am in the adequate with a resource nurse to expert depending on the situation.
