At this point, there are still plenty of RN positions to be had in western PA. I just interviewed for a casual part time position in a community hospital near my home. The nursing director told me that they were having difficulty attracting RNs to these positions even though the pay is very competitive and working conditions are good. WPAHS is still hiring as well.
Isn't it wierd that in the midst of all the talk of the great coming nursing shortage just the opposite is happening. Over the next two years a lot of nurses will expierence reduced hours and/or layoffs. It will just be temporary downturn however. You can't deny the coming crunch. Delaying it will make it worse when it comes.
We are starting to see some RNs who have been out of bedside nursing for a myriad of reasons applying for hospital positions because of economic conditions. There have always been a number of RNs that leave nursing pretty quickly after starting work, seems as if some are at least trying to return.
