I took the CRNE in October and got my results yesterday..i failed. Only by a few points which makes it worse! I was sure i would get through..its so humiliating..i've got 7 years experience paediatrics/neonates and helpfully the exam had hardly any of these areas! I find it so frustrating now i have to sit it again and fork out $600 to retake! Just wondering if anyone else had been through this ..any advice... i think i'll retake in Feb 2010. ;-)

I had 15 years exp in the OR before I took the CNOR test. I failed it by a few points, very frustrating. Out $200, cheap at that time. Took it again a few months later and passed. That test was IMHO harder than my nursing boards. Just take it again and you will pass, but don't dwell on it because it will drive you nuts! Good luck

Since this is in regards to the canadian exam, maybe the moderators can move your post to the canadian forum?
There are several posts from nurses who struggled with the crne on allnurses (you can search them), it may not alleviate your disappointment but at least you will know you are not alone and hopefully you can get tips that will help you to pass in feb.
good luck

So sorry to hear that. Did you ever get a copy of the CNA Prep Guide? Are you in Vancouver now to stay? I know this would not likely help but to take the exam in other provinces seems less of a cost than BC. I have Lippincotts, Mosby & CNA Prep Guide and only really used the CNA Prep Guide. I feel bad about it especially in light of what happened to you but really could not motivate myself to study much. I struggled in school with nursing exams and fuzzy questions but did well on NCLEX and now with the Canadian Exam also. Towards the end of the exam (I also tested in Vancouver) I just didnt seem to care anymore. I think the exam is way too long and counter productive at a certain point as the brain shuts down when fatigued. I also never really agreed with the Rationales of a lot of the subjective questions when I went through the CNA Prep Guide but focused on that since I knew I would need to get a handle on that for the exam. I dont think you can truly study for an exam like this as they can throw ANYTHING at you but know they will ask a lot of psychsocial type of questions. I think the exam is changing though after Feb 2010 so would consider that when you are making a decision on purchasing the guide. I got mine through CRNBC and found the shipping cheaper than going on the CNA site. I wish you the best of luck to your future...and in my opinion a lot of nurses that have failed exams are truly the BEST NURSES...so try to keep it in perspective. You will pass next go around!!!!
Thanks for the supportive comments guys its much appreciated and i allready feel better. I think i've bored my friends n family to death talkin bout it! I wont let it take over my life!
I didnt purchase the CNA guide but borrowed it, i have the Lippincott and took the online Learn readiness test..but i too found it difficult to revise for and the questions very confusing and random at times. I didnt always agree with the 'right' answer. Ah well..back to the books i think..it looks like i should probably take it in Feb if the exam is gonna change..at least i'll be familiar with the format etc.
Thanks again for your comments and fingers crossed

Have you looked into taking a CRNE exam prep course? Kwantlen offers this kind of course, I don't have any personal knowledge, so I can't comment on it, but it is a program offered at an approved college... so maybe it's worth checking out.

Good advise Dishes - other nurses who've done courses seem to have found them really helpful and on the whole passed.
