Hi all,
I was interested in applying to the Fresno State BSN program for spring 2010 but am unsure if my GPA makes the cut. I don't want to blow the extra $50-60 on a school I wouldn't get in to anyway.
If anyone is willing to share their GPA/TEAS scores and whether they were admitted and for what term, I'd be greatly appreciative.
i got an acceptance letter from Fresno State saying i got admitted for Major: Pre-Nursing
is that the same as Nursing major?
I honestly can't remember what major I applied for this school because all the other schools I applied as a biology major.
Anyways is Pre-nursing major the same as nursing major? Like did I get accepted to the nursing program? Because I still havent finished all my nursing pre-reqs yet. What does it say on your guy's acceptance letter?
hey pandar do you mind sharing your stats like science gpa overall and teas?
ok now im pretty sure i didnt get into the nursing program because my gpa is 3.46 and im still taking anat and micro this sem and then physio next sem. and i havent taken teas....so...im guessing they're just admitting me to take physio at their school. =( and then expect me to apply for the actual nursing program in the spring

Application for nursing program can be found here:
http://www.csufresno.edu/chhs/depts_programs/nursing/about/applications/undergraduate.shtml
I don't believe there was a fee to apply to the nursing program.
You must also apply to the university if you don't go there already. It is $55 to apply. Application is here:
http://www.csumentor.edu./admissionapp/undergrad_apply.asp
The application for admission to the nursing program for Fall 2010 is available March 1-31 (RIGHT NOW). You don't have to finish your pre-reqs until June 15, 2010 to be able to start in the Fall.
The pre-nursing advisor (basically the advisor you talk to BEFORE you get into the program) is *********.
Oh and I'm not sure how sending out your transcripts works because I did my prereqs at Fresno State, but email her and she'd know.
KSoares, you are the best!!
by this semester if i get a a's for my last pre-q, i should have 3.73, already took the teas and got
81%. i already giving up hope. I was told that this fall applicants is going to double, which mean
there will be a lot of 4.0 student. *sight, might have to wait for another semester.

so as i assume, for the program at csu fresno, they lean on more about the overal gpa right? i apply for fall2010 and i'm really thankful for that because teas score is really a pain in the butt!i still can't believe i made it through 4 hours of testing. it was really cracking my nerve. i just got 83.5%. just that i'm really happy with my gpa and will be done all the pre-regs with the additional classes like nut, psch or soc in the end of spring 2010 at my community college. my gpa rightnow is 4.0 for pre-reg, n 3.9 overall! crossed my finger that i could keep that up!^^
csu fresno only looks at gpa (for 8 prereqs only) for who they admit. if you have a 4.0 in your prereqs (english, speech, critical thinking, math, chem, microbiology, anatomy, physiology) then i would say there's a 99.9999% chance you'll get in. the teas isn't look at for admission, you just have to pass it with a 75% to be able to apply to do the program.
do you guys know how they r gonna do the application process. the points giving out for each specific criteria requirement?! i couldn't find it on the main website of nursing department.
the only thing they look at is prereq gpa, so there is no other criteria.
they didn't give out the supplemental application yet! i hardly believe that they let u know about the acceptance that late!0.0. whoa. at California State University, Chico, they let u know about the acceptance to fall2010 around april 15. it might be the earliest school letting u know that.
i didn't find out until i think it was january 10th that i was getting in for the spring semester, which started january 20-something. it's a bummer but it's just a part of life.
do u think the 3yrs program at fresno is reasonable? there are some schools have the only 2yrs and a half program!
i think 3 years is reasonable. there is the option that if you do well throughout the program, you can combine your 5th and 6th semester classes, so then it would be a 2 1/2 year program. you have to maintain good grades and do well on your ati's to do so, but it is possible. (i'm doing it right now - i'm a 5th/6th semester student, graduating this may!
they also said for the 3yrs, the first semester is pretty much so boring because you don't have many classes to take n no clinical lab!? is that true? i also apply for csu chico, which is only 2yrs n a half. do u think it would be a better option?(although i really hate the way chico works, they don't really care about ur gpa at all, they just take 4 courses out of all of the pre-regs to check!)
i don't think that about the first semester at all. first semester includes care of elderly clients, pathophysiology, skills, health assessment, and a clinical at a skilled nursing facility (senior care home). while not the most exciting of clinicals, it's a good place to start and work on your assessment skills and learn how to take vitals. and the skills class is definitely valuable - that's where you learn things like how to start iv's, how to give shots, insert catheters, etc.
2nd semester - advanced skills, pharmacology, med/surg nursing and a med/surg clinical.
3rd semester - med/surg nursing clinical, mental health, and mental health clinical
4th semester - pediatrics (with a clinical at a great children's hospital) and ob nursing (labor and delivery, postpartum, etc.)
5th semester - icu nursing and community health nursing (with clinicals for both)
6th semester - senior focus (pick a preceptor and do 90 hours in the area of your choice), leadership class, and senior project (45 hours of volunteer work)
btw, how is the surrounding area at fresno. i really like my recent place rightnow (bay areas), and wonder how the scenery would be dramatically changed if i go to fresno. are they many cool places and activities that you can do? i know fresno is still the 4th largest city in ca, but who knows. hic, it's not a isolated place that you just come and study, is it?! >.
fresno is a nice area. honestly i wouldn't compare it to the bay area for culture/things to do, but the people here are nice and cost of living is much cheaper. i wouldn't consider us a "college town" where that's the only thing people are even in this city for. but we are largely agriculture based.
we have great hospitals in the area - community regional medical center has a level 1 trauma and a level 3 nicu, and we have a local children's hospital. those are big pluses in my book for where to go to nursing school at.
don't freak out and good luck!
