I wanted to apply to West Hills and Fresno State, but they require Anatomy and Physiology separate. Sucks that I took them together, but I plan on taking Physiology the following semester so I'll be able to apply broadly afterwards. Have you recently checked and tried to log in to Fresno City Website in the Lottery Status early? Somehow I tried to log in for the heck of it and it says that my ID and SS are not in the Database. Just being paranoid I guess that they might forget about me.
West Hills also requires Speech 1 (NOT 2) and completing Food Nutrition before you apply gets you higher on the list. This semester that's all I'm doing, taking classes for West Hills. I was lucky enough to get permission to take anatomy and physiology concurrently last fall so I could qualify for all of the programs this semester.
Hadn't planned to go to state or I would have taken Ethics. That's all I have left, regardless of which program I get in to since I already have a bachelors in sociology. Now it's just fingers crossed.
When I log on I actually get in to my records. Might check on that before Wed., although I have found that FCCs websites aren't always up to date.
Good Luck!
I basically took all of the classes needed to apply broadly, even took Speech 1. Only thing I had to do was just finish up Physiology, I wasn't able to get in to take it this summer, so I'm just trying to finish it up in Fall, that's is I don't get in. I did just gave Fresno City a call about my records, they said it should work but I still see the error .
I have my application in at Fresno City as well as 6 other colleges up and down the central valley. IMO city is one of the biggest jokes ever. They have a 40% failure rate (told to me by a FCC professor) in that program. And the failures take place largely in the medical math portion of the program. That class takes place in the second year of the program. So basically city college is taking all these average students, accepting their money and letting them fail because they require average grades. Then after they fail the math class the first time they get a second chance and 40% still fail. Those are spots that are wasted and could have been filled by people that can actually do the work. The best part of all is when they increased the math requirement for the program, they still plan on grandfathering in almost 800 applicants that had already applied to the program. So 40% of those students will waste a spot for someone that could pass the math class.
I spoke with the director of their progam two years ago when I started the program and was discussing my options as a male in the career. She then gave me her philosophy of "the best students dont always make the best nurses." To which my reply was "good thing they dont pick heart and brain surgeons by the same standards." Her caddy smile was pretty amusing. Needless to say I hope both of you as well as myself get picked by some college for crying out loud. And please dont fail the darn math class. Because there are plenty of people out there that can and should alredy be nurses.
