 A preliminary lottery was held early in April.

So the lottery was drawn a lot earlier than we thought!

Does that mean they can draw another one... with unselected to fill spots, that would nice... 

 

Also makes it look worse on their end because it means they are taking a REALLY long time to update statuses when they been known since early April.

Fresno City College's internal lottery process changed somewhat this year based on the volume of applications to our registered nursing program. Our internal changes in no way impacted the chances for any student to be selected for the program. We based a preliminary lottery on the information that students provided on their applications. Students were determined to be "eligible" for the lottery based on self-reported GPA, grades, scores, and other information. A preliminary lottery was held early in April. Our staff then had to verify that those randomly selected actually completed all information accurately. For example, we had to calculate GPAs to confirm that units and grades were calculated correctly by students. Until this process was completed, students were placed in a "pending" status. 

This year, over 1,100 students applied to the Fresno City College Registered Nursing program. Results posted indicate if you were "selected" or "unselected." Please note - our lottery is a strictly random process from all eligible applicants regardless of the number of times students apply. 

Notice this:

A preliminary lottery was held early in April. 

We thought it was drawn just this week, but it was drawn weeks ago!

Yes possibly. Ms. H told me in the past she's had to call unselected people to fill spots.

That’s such a chaotic way to do things.. they should have a window before the application cycle where applicants meet with the counselor, they can deem them eligible or ineligible, then If you are eligible for that cycle put your application in and then they do the lottery, that way they know whoever gets pulled from that is eligible...

It really is. I'll be happy to at least see I was eligible so I know my app will be processed quicker next year.

That even seemed chaotic because it was Barbie’s 3rd time applying and her status didn’t update to eligible in March like mine did.

I'm sure everything has changed and is chaotic this year. I have a friend that applied to the Rad Tech program. She was unselected in Feb when lotto was drawn. Later in early April, she received an email that she was selected as Alternate.. so it's possible they may do the nursing program the same way this year. Those that are unselected, keep your eyes out for emails to your student email just in case. Best of luck to those still in the race.
