Freshmen year gone bad

Nursing Students General Students

Hello everyone! i am brand new to the forums and i hope to be more involve in the future :D

like the title said i had a horrible first semester. there were so many issues going on like family issues and commuting (takes me like 30-45 mins to get to school and i had morning classes) that it was difficult for me to focus on school. my studying habits were horrible. don't get me wrong i did a tremendous amount of study but my studying method is what killed me i think. soo after this past semester i looked at my grades and i believe i got a 2.2 to 2.5 average. i felt robbed and worried that i might not get into a nursing program (going for BSN). my mom is also a nurse who advice me to go to community college to complete my pre-req because most of her co-workers went to it as well and transferred to get their BSN

So i got 3 questions

1) is there a chance i can bounce back?

2) will going to community college hurt my chance getting into a BSN program?

3) what kind of ways to improve my studying habits?

I dont think it will hurt your chances of geting into the bsn program if you go to a community college i think it will help ur grades bcuz the classes are a lil smaller and you can go to totuoring which is free. Also you how to find out what works for you like reading it over and over or making flash cards or just writing it down or typing it in to word as long as i write it helps me to remeber or make a song out of it. break it up in section instead of all in one spend 30minutes on each section until u find out whats the hardest. or find out how others study try what works and so forward i hope this helps this is what i did in my anatomy class i made songs of all the bones and muscles and recorded it on my mp3 player and i also played games on line where i looked 4 just pictures and i filled in the name of the bones and muscles it all want b fun but if u want it bad enough u will figure out what works any way i hope this helps a lil bit lol.

It's gonna take some work, but you should be able to pull up your GPA.

I know a fair number of my classmates completed their prerequisites for our program (accel. BSN) at our local community college. They're all doing pretty well thus far. :)

Do you know why your studying isn't working? Are you looking at the correct material? Do you really understand it or are you memorizing things without understanding what it really means? My undergrad had a tutoring center that students could use for free. If the tutoring center didn't have a tutor in house for the subject you needed help with, they would hook you up with a tutor for free for a couple of hours a week. Perhaps your college has something similar..

1) is there a chance i can bounce back?

You got a C+ average your first semester-- so it's not the end of the world as long as you didn't get any D's or failures. Careful with your prerequisite classes. To get into a BSN program they must be very good.

2) will going to community college hurt my chance getting into a BSN program?

I took all my classes at a community college before applying to my BSN program because the courses are much cheaper. I think it shouldn't make a difference.

3) what kind of ways to improve my studying habits?

Most of the community colleges have a "Learning Center" or something along those lines, where you can get tutoring and other services. The centers here offer workshops or other resources on study strategies.
