Most of the community colleges offer nursing refreshers. Check out Kwantlen, Langara, Malaspina, Okanagan or any of the others. First aid and CPR (AED is included in CPR for health care providers now) are a good idea, because you have to be current with at least the CPR to be employed.
Depending on what type of visa you have you could work as a care aide while you're getting the rest organized. Just be aware that it won't count as nursing experience and you won't learn that much about how health care is provided in Canada as a care aide. You'll make a little bit of money to help pay all the fees and other costs, but that will be all.
You probably will find IV therapy refreshers at the same community colleges I've already mentioned. UVic and LifeSupportBC have courses available. IV therapy in the basic nursing education programmes in Canada so you're expected to know it already. It's not a separate post-basic course here, so you'd be in a refresher course.
No problem. I meant to tell you that since you have a PR visa, you are allowed to work at whatever job you wish. Just keep in mind that when you apply for nursing jobs, you'll be competing with nurses who may have some experience and will therefore look more attractive to the employer. Refreshing is a great idea for you, it'll show you as someone who is keen and hard-working.

Hi guys, I'm a novice here.
I was wondering if anyone can give me some insights. I graduated with my BSN in 2007 and since then I did not have any hospital experience. Now that I'm in BC, I plan to practice nursing and I've recently sent my application to the CRNBC. I'm aware that I have to take the SEC given my situation. I plan to take up First Aid, CPR & AED course while waiting. Does anyone know of any school providing any refresher course? It is possible for me to seek for a job say even as a care aid?
Any ideas is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
