French nurse wants to move to England

Hello,

I am a French male nurse wants to move for one year to England in september 2010 (I want to pass the TOEFL and if it's possible the NCLEX too and want to live and work in an English environment to become realy fluent in English, the plan is to move to Australia for 1 or 2 years and move to USA after).

I am looking for a job in Portsmouth or in the south coast. I prefer a nursing home or care of the elderly.

I'm going to register to the NMC in january.

We (me and my wife) are going to Portsmouth next weekend to see the city.

I am interested in all information about nursing jobs in Portsmouth (or near) and the way of life in the city.

If a French nurse has moved in England (or UK) I am very curious about her/his story.

Thank you for any information.

Hi Fred

Portsmouth is a lovely place, I lived just outside there for a year and not far from the hospital where there was a lot of building and improvements going on. I did not however work there so can't say how it was. Plenty to do there

NCLEX is for the US so you will have plenty of time to study for that and hopefully retrogression may have eased a bit otherwise you may still be looking at several years wait for the US.

Thank you Silverdragon,

I think too Portsmouth is a lovely place, it is why we want to move there.

I know NCLEX is for the US, my goal is to go to live and to work in the US where my wife is come from !

The first step for me is England because it's easy and close to Brittany and after one year I will be really fluent in English for my job, second step is Australia because we want sun and visit Australia and Asia.

Fred
