Have you ever noticed how there are free CMEs for MDs all over the place? I just got a magazine stuffed full of free CME programs for MDs. (MD NetGuide - http://www.mdng.com) Ever notice that nurses have to pay for a lot of them? It's big business! Why is it that those who make that much money get free lunches, dinners, AND CME's?!?
Maybe should have put this on "Pet Peeves!" :angryfire

There are tons of free nursing CEs. ANA, for one, puts out some.
In addition, in most states, CMES can be used in place of nursing CEs. I know that in CA they can---when you renew your license (I just did) it tells you how to enter them.
Just google "Continuing education" & "nursing" & "free" or some combination of those terms together. I have found plenty. In CA, you need 30 hours of CEs every two yeqrs to renew. I just renewed, and all the CEs I did over the past two years were online, and free.
Nursing Spectrum, in addition, often presents a free one that can be done online.
