Hey all,
So I submitted my application to nursing school about two weeks ago. I find out something in March (so far) and I'm freaking out. I will have my BS in Biology this May, and have decided I want to be a nurse. There are only two schools near me: U Rochester and U Brockport. Rochester is an accelerated program (1 year) while Brockport is a traditional that will take two years. At this point, I heavily favor Brockport. I've talked to students who love the program, and even though it's an extra year, I think it's worth it. In addition, I'm a NYS resident so tuition at Brockport will be about 5K a year. Tuition for Rochester is 52K a year - so much that I feel I shouldn't even consider the school.
Which means Brockport is my only option. I've sort of put all my eggs in one basket, and if I don't get in I don't know what I'll do. Already it will be six years getting my BSN - applying next year and making it seven years seems absurd. I'm just so nervous about backup plans if I don't get into Brockport. Anyone have advice?
Thanks

Do you have any local community colleges in your area?
I do - but I'd much rather have a BSN. As I stated earlier, I already have a BS in Biology. Going to school to get an Associate's will be two years no matter what, even with my previous degree (I spoke to many schools). So it would be 6 years of school for an Associate's degree, and even more later for my BSN (I eventually hope to get a master's in nursing).

Well, you mentioned U Rochester which is in NY, and I'm guessing the other one is in NY too, right?
There are so many accelerated degree programs in NY that you can look into. Here's a list that I've checked out before that's really helpful:
http://www.aacn.nche.edu/IDS/pdf/BSNNCG.pdf
It's a list of accelerated programs all of the country - just look at how many are in NY! For all of the state schools listed you'll still pay in-state tuition, so the only other major cost you would have to consider is housing (if you move to a different city).
Don't give up on your dreams! Seriously. The situation isn't as dire as you think it is.
Hope this helps! :redbeathe
