I'm applying to the FRCC Larimer Campus nursing program Fall 2016. All my prereqs are finally finished and I am taking the Hesi A2 entrance exam in a couple of weeks. For anyone currently enrolled in any FRCC nursing program, or recently have been, what can you tell me about admissions criteria? What was the average GPA getting in? What about grades for the prereqs? Also, what is the average Hesi score? Someone I took Micro with last semester said they weigh the Hesi score more than your grades. Any truth to that? I just want to know honestly what type of chance I have of actually getting in.

Most likely, no one on here knows those statistics. You might need to contact the school directly to get those answers.

I didn't expect anyone to know those statistics. I've already contacted the school, but haven't heard back. I was looking more personal stories from people, and if they knew what other people got in with. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Hi there! I too am applying to the program this semester. I am taking my hesi on Monday. Have you taken yours yet? I went to the informational meeting a few months back and was advised that if I had a 3.0 (which I have above that) and did at least 75 on hesi I should get in but she wouldnt be specific. Im nervous about the chemistry portion of the hesi.

I haven't taken it yet. I'm on Spring Break now, and have been studying this week. Plus, I will be taking it at FRCC, and they are closed this week. I will take it one day next week, since the last day to apply is next Friday. How was it? I'm worried mostly about chemistry as well. I was never great at chemistry, and since we don't need it as a prereq, its been awhile since I've taken a chemistry class.

What you heard at the informational meeting doesn't make sense. I know you need a 3.0 and at least a 75 on the Hesi to apply. But I've heard that a lot more people apply than they have spots for. So it wouldn't be possible for everyone to get it.

Hey there! I just so happened to be on at the same time you replied. My message was from 2 days ago so no, i havent taken the hesi yet. The school's testing center was actually open all week but with modified hours. Application deadline is Friday but I was advised by the testing center and its online that it can take 24 hours for results so make sure to get in there early!

Maybe you misunderstood my statement about what I was told in the informational meeting. The words came directly from the admissions coordinator. Having a 3.0 and a hesi score of at least 80 (not 75, I misspoke) then your chances of getting in a very high and she said that should get you in. Granted my gpa is far above that. She advised that they receive on average 70 applicants (around that I cant remember if its 70 or 75) and they admit 45. On average they end up admitting 15 alternates because first applicants turn down their slot. So that makes it as so that around 60 applicants are called up. The odds are pretty good if you do decent on hesi and have a good gpa, but its still competitive and hesi biology and chem carries a lot of weight.

Goodluck when you take your exam. Chem study is stressing me out as well. I dont understand why its a required topic when its not a prereq either. I took chem well over 15 years ago :( Its kind of scary that you have to wait 365 days to retake also. But all that we can do is try our best. Who knows, we may be in the same cohort!

Well I took the Hesi this morning. I was planning on taking it yesterday, but the blizzard kind of messed that up! I should get test results back in time tomorrow, but it is making me a little worried. Honestly, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Especially the chemistry. A few weird questions, but overall I think I did well. The math was killing me though. It really would have been nice to have a scrap piece of paper. Especially with all the fractions questions.

So how did you do/ think you did?

I actually did mine yesterday as well. I couldn't Monday and then the storm on Wednesday delayed my taking it. I did okay but not as well as I had hoped. I did get next points for my scores. I wish there was some way to know the average ranking score of those accepted.

how did you do?

I did pretty well, better than I thought. My lowest score was math, which is what I figured after taking it. And my GPA is higher than required. I'm feeling good, but I would also like to know average scores. Then again, no one knows how many people will apply for Fall semester or what their stats are. I guess we have to wait and see. Good luck!
