Does anyone know what the typical length of deployment is for a nurse on an FST? Is it the usual 12 months or does it mirror the shorter MD and CRNA deployments? I wanted to know if the team goes and returns together or are the RNs there for the year+.
not sure if you have all the info you need 1lt,
i am the ncoic of the 2nd fst (ft carson). if you are active this is how it will work.
the active duty team is made up of 10 officers and 10 enlisted.
5 of the officers are assigned to the team, 5 are profis (assigned to the hospitals).
according to the mto&e the 5 assigned officers are:
1) commander (a general surgeon)
2) executive officer (a medical service corps officer)
3) crna (66f)
4) or nurse
5) icu nurse 66h8a (team chief nurse)
the profis officers are:
1 more crna
2 more general surgeons
1 er nurse 66hm5
on my team the icu and er nurse are switched. i am currently deployed, and our or nurse is on the entire 15 month trip with us. the surgeons, 1 crna, and the in my case icu nurse are on 180 day rotations.
hope it helps
look up fm4-02.25

Weeeellll, uh, actually I believe "deployment" refers to a trip in direct support of or participation in a military operation or (large scale) exercise such as Ops Provide Comfort, Nothern/Southern Watch's, Enduring Freedom, OIF, OEF, etc. or Exercises REFORGER or Team Spirit (anyone remember those biggies?).
Conversley, a trip to a foreign country could be refered to as a Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY) as is a trip stateside.
So you could deploy within CONUS in support of an exercise or op or you could go TDY to a foreign country NOT supporting any of the above just on some sort of official duty.
Clear as mud?
