:typingIm curious to know why correctional nurses get paid more than the nurses who may work in the hospital or LTC.

Specializes in ER- Correctional.

I have been working in a Maximum Security Correctional Facility for 10 years now. The pay in this area/State is pretty good. RN's, as a whole, make less in Corrections in this state, compared to what one would make in the Hospitals.

For LPN's ,the pay scale in Corrections is better, than what they would make in the Hospitals. Of course location, years of experience, are also a big factor in the wages in this state.

Could you please clue me in? What is a "Hooch"? Sounds like something discusting?

Thanks,

We call it "Pruno" in my facility...The kitchen workers(inmates) steal sugar, fruit, etc. let it ferment..(Or they save their sugar packets & fruit, from their meal trays).then strain it with their socks...It's really some wicked, nasty brown looking stuff, but it works, for them.

Specializes in Emergency; Corrections.

Remember in Corrections your're dealing with people most of us would prefer not to be around. More often than not your depending on your own assessment skills to decide a plan of care. If something goes wrong, correctional nurses are held accountable and since corrections is a public service; your name can end up in the newspaper.
