Foreign Graduate Nurses looking jobs in California

U.S.A. California

Published

just to share my sentiments and ask some opinions. i'm a foreign graduate nurse in orange county. i passed my nclex exam last august 2011. entering the world of unemployment is so harsh, especially if your a foreign graduate.

1. rn new grad program. well, i guess i'm wasting my time on this. i tried to apply, though. they need recommendations. clinical, personal, etc. and the grading system is different. a, b, c, d or 4, 3, 2, 1 while in ours is 1, 1.75, 1.5, 1.25, 2, 2.75, 2.5, 2.25.....

2. the language. i can't deny that i might have good english but i still have an accent..and if i have spanish as my first language, that would be a plus...but no...

3. the only facilities i can go are acute-care hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation facilities (irfs), skilled-nursing facilities, long-term-care hospitals, outpatient programs and home health agencies but note, most of them now hired nurses with experienced, especially if your living in high populated areas. even, i have a year experience on other country, it is not credited here in california.

if someone could tell me things i can do. i would really appreciate it.

I just found this while I am trying to see if I am alone on this dilemma :***:

Well I guess this battle is still on..I don't know where to start, as new grad RN or an RN with just over a year of experience...

I am as well a foreign trained nurse and all you said is TRUE...from the diff between PH healthcare system with US, the high end equipment and of cors the Language...aghhh

Hi I m also a foreign graduate just got CA RN license and don't know where to start any thoughts would be appreciated?? Although do have overseas 6years experience in OR.

Specializes in ICU, Nursing Education and QA.

Hi guys, I'm facing the same predicament too. I have about 5 and half years experience overseas which includes an almost 3 and a half years of experience in a Joint Commission-accredited hospital. I received my RN license last July. I'm surprised how difficult it is to find an RN job here given the plentiful RN job openings around. Is the RN job marked that tough to get into here in SoCal?

I hope there are updates on this issue that can be shared. Thank you!

hi all
