foreign educated RN wants a job in northern CA

Published

Hello, I would like to get some opinions from everyone here because I'm kind of desperate.

I'm a foreign educated nurse with an active ca rn license. (I am a permanent resident)

In the US, I have NO nursing education, training nor work experience.

Before I go back to work as a nurse, I want to gain confidence and get an idea of how things are done differently than my country.

Now I think I have a few options:

1. take a rn refresher course (in my area there is almost none, at least 3 hours away, and most of them don't offer it this fall)

2. take some nursing classes at community college as refresher

3. apply for a re-entry program at hospital (I know this is competitive)

4. go ahead and apply for a job that requires no work experience like long term, nursing homes (at this point I don't feel like anybody is going to hire me at acute care facility)

What do you guys think? Is anybody here have better idea?

Right now I am open to any kind of nursing job both part time and full time because it seems like very hard to get a job as a RN even for nurses from here.

I would appreciate any advice, comments, especially from someone went through the same thing. Thank you!!

When it comes to Cali. You are not alone in your fight to find a job. Your foreign nursing status is not what is the biggest problem in why you can not find an acute job. many others in your postion are looking at other states just to find a job.

If you think you would feel comfortable in taking a refresher course I don't think it would be a bad idea if you yourself feel you need it but again I'm not saying by taking one will necessarily help you land a job.

Yes I would definitely look at all types of nursing jobs in many different areas just to have a job and get any type of experiamce you can possibly get
