I was doing some research for an English paper today when I came across this article about flight RT's. If the link doesn't work, try to find it under:

Valenza, Tor. "RTs to the rescue: at Shriners Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, RTs regularly fly far and wide to bring back severely burned children to the hospital for free medical care.(Facility Profile)(respiratory therapists)." RT 20.11 (Nov 2007): 50(3). Health Reference Center Academic. Gale. McLennan Community College. 11 Feb. 2008

.

OR send me a PM and I can get it to you. It's really interesting. Flight is my dream, RT is something I'm really considering doing while on a waiting list for nursing because the pay is comparable to a new grad RN. Hell, for a position like this, I'd even be willing to relocate to Ohio. I wonder how much experience one needs for something like this?

RT's in my area (NJ) are starting to get heavy sigh-on bonuses comparable to the RN's. It is a consideration.

In my area, the base pay for a new grad RN is 19.25 and a new grad LVN is 14.50.

The base pay for a new grad RRT is 18.75 and a new grad CRT will make 15.50.

I think I will do it. I know people talk about burnout down the road and no room for advancement, but I'm not looking to make a career out of it. I just want to try it out and go back for my RN later.
