For a patient with MRSA, what do you wear into their room?

How much PPE is required?

Depends on where they are infected and what you will be doing. Contact precautions and maybe a mask.

Our Infection "Preventionist" (as she prefers to be called) expects us to glove and gown whenever entering the room of a contact isolation patient. Annoys me because while this sounds good it is totally ridiculous. If all I am going to do is push a button on the IV pump why do I need a gown? I am very cautious about not brushing up against bedlinens, or the bedrails, etc... If my patient requires me to do something else that requires touching them or the bed, then I would (and do) put a gown on.

If I am merely popping my head into check on my patient's status, why do I have to put anything on? Why can't I just duck back out of the room when I see they are fine and foam my hands outside the door?
