Do you like it? Do you miss patient care? How does it feel to be there 5 days a week???? I have been a nurse since 1996. LPN till 2001 when I got my ADN, finished BSN last year. Have been in pt care since the beginning except for a one year stint as a trauma coordinator almost 10 years ago. I am interviewing for a Infection Prevention position tomorrow. I hurt my shoulder, had rotator cuff surgery last month and am thinking about making this switch due to the hands of time keep marching and feel like maybe this is a good time to switch to a job that isn't so hard on the body. I am scared though. I really like what I do, love the 12 hour shifts and the time it gives me with my kids (10 and 11). How does it feel to leave the bedside and go to a "grown up" job? I am excited about the opportunity but have some concerns, this is a big life change. Any thoughts/advice would be interesting.... =) Happy Sunday!

Let me start by saying I never thought I wanted a Mon-Fri gig. I hate doing errands on the weekends when everyone and their mother are at the store and I liked being able to do grocery shopping at 11am on a Tuesday. HOWEVER, now that I have a job with normal hours I can't see myself ever going back. Now, when my friends ask me "what are you doing Friday night?" or "what are you doing this weekend?" I don't have to say "working." I literally spent 11 weekends out of town this summer. I can go to a professional sports game on a random Wednesday regardless of whether or not I am working. I was away last weekend and will be again this weekend and then I'm leaving for an 11 day vacation next Friday- and I just took a 2 week vacation in October. Last night I went to trivia, I'm going out to play in a hockey game in a few minutes, tomorrow I'm going to a hockey game at my alma mater and Thursday to a professional game. I'd have had time for none of this if I was working in the hospital, because I'd be working overnights and spending every day off sleeping.
