Foot in the Door or Nursing School?

A few years ago I gave up my dream of being a physician in favor of becoming an NP (better for family life, more patient contact, etc), and decided to start NS, spend a few years working bedside in my speciality of choice, and then become an NP.

The job market in my area is making that seem very difficult. Spending a few years just trying to get a job in the speciality I want to pursue my Masters in isn't really what I was going for. Unemployment definitely wasn't in my plans.

I've applied for an endless number of Tech/CNA positions, and heard absolutely NOTHING, due to my nonexistent experience, I'm sure. However, a recruiter at a big hospital I always have wanted to work at referred me to someone for an administrative position, and I had my first interview today. It went well, but the hours would be M-F, 8-5...not compatible with my nursing program.

If the job is mine, I can either take it, put NS off for a semester, focus on the new job, and reapply for an evening/weekend program that I'm sure I'd get into in January, and maybe move into a nursing position much MUCH easier. Or, I can pass it up, start NS this summer, and just take my chances when I graduate.

I'm stumped.

Any thoughts? Be they negative or positive?

Not sure how old you are or how many responsibilities you have financially, but my lean would be to get going with school if you aren't having to support yourself or a child. The market is what it is and may improve by the time you graduate. This definitely isn't the best job to land in your lap and may not be the only opportunity to open up to you either. This is purely opinion though. I think there isn't a "right" or a "wrong" answer. I just know for me I put off going to school and before I knew it 20 years had gone by. ;)
