Hi,
I am a fairly new nurse. I have been working in dialysis for a year now. I don't care for the specialty, but its some type of rn experience for my resume. I've been searching for jobs in the hospital consistently over a year but to no success. As of now I work per diem, because I can't stand the job I'm doing. It's redundent, I'm surely losing my nursing skills, its a dead end to nursing promotions, the hours are long and unrealistic (waking up at 3am and off by 8pm). Ughhh! But I've just been offered a full time position. I know I could use the money:twocents:, hours and benefits (mind:confused:), but I really don't want to be committed to the job (heart:redbeathe). Am I being lazy, or would you say I'm being honest with myself and what I feel about this specialty. Should I be a "big girl" and just do the job, until I find something else. But as soon as I do, I'll be leaving the manger hanging like a nail! Or should I stick with what I'm doing per diem and continue searching for a hospital job, barely making ends meet?

This line sort of resonates with me. If its going to make you more miserable then you are already, I wouldn't take it. I would possibly find something else to supplement your income, so you don't burn out before you even start, even if it was outside of nursing.

Just my opinion, but if you don't like the job, stay per diem. I understand the ecomonic situation but if your miserable doing the job, you may ultimately end up quiting anyway. Or worse, staying for a long time, because you feel you need the income. Perhaps, you can take another per diem opportunity in another area to supplement your income and skills, learn something new and make yourself more marketable.
