our foleys are not usually in long but we DO clean with peri bottles and gentle wiping...ensuring the cath remains clean and the meatus as well, w/o getting invasive.
in med-surg, we had to document foley cath cares q shift as well. but i am in OB/GYN now,and foleys usually come out within 24 hours of placement, (sooner in OB patients).
I work in ICU and all pts get a bedbath. That includes washing around the foley with soap and water.
We have a checklist on the nurses' notes and we just put a check mark by foley care. Nothing special. I remember the days of cleaning with betadine q shsift! I think research has shown that was not the best thing to do.

I would like to know what other hospitals are doing for Foley Cath Cares; what and how do you document. It seems at our hospital nothing is being documented.I remember the days of having to document q shift.
Thanks
