FNP program and working full time?

Hi Everyone,

I've just been accepted to an on campus FNP program. For the first semester, is it doable to work 3x12hr day shift, plus 13 units of classes 2 days a week in class? It's a 16 week term. I am single, no kids, no pets, and no drama at work or at home :)

I've read other posts discussing the same topic, but some of those discussions may have been for online programs with less units per term.

Thank you in advance for your input.

Congrats! Which program were you accepted to? I graduated from the FNP program at the University of Washington this year in March. I'm not sure how your curriculum is set up but here is a breakdown of my experience:

My first year focused almost completely on the theory courses so working full time was doable. I had many classmates who had families and worked so I had no excuse!

I went to part time for my second year, which focused on advanced pharm, pathophysiology, adult and peds mgmt and clinicals. The clinical hours were not as heavy yet. Most working students followed this same plan. Mostly based on advice from alums.

Third year I went to per diem. With a ton of clinical hours, seminar, and the capstone or doctoral project I had barely anytime to work (plan on maxing out your credit card!).

I am also in an on campus FNP program. I will graduate in August 2018 and I have been working full time 3 12's throughout the program. I worked night shift until I started clinical, then switched to straight days. I'm not sure if I would have been able to do it if I continued to work nights. I plan on continuing to work full time until I graduate! It's definitely tough, especially with all of the clinical hours and studying. But, if you're willing to put in some long hours and not many days off, it's doable! Good luck!!
