I am currently in the program and love it. My instructors have been very helpful, as long as I am willing to do the work. It’s just like any other college course, you have to do the work. You are responsible for finding your own clinical site and making sure you get the required agreements, but the Office of Field Experience will help you through all of that. Overall, this program has been worth it. I finish in December. Email me @ [email protected] if you have any more questions. I would be glad to answer them. ?

Just finished their two year fnp program. Here’s the break down

didactic is gear towards adults learners. Since the program is 100% online you are required to put in the work. Little to no interaction or teaching from the professors. You have a syllabus and a weekly study goal in which you are responsible for completing. If you have any questions about your assignments you can email the professors for clarifications. They will response in 24-48 hours so if it’s urgent be prepared to wait. The program is compose of weekly discussion and written paper. You will Have outside reading materials from Aanp, jnc8, ada all in which you are required to read. In some classes you are required to meet with the instructor every first week and 6 weeks. This is where the expectations and progress of the class will be discussed. In your second year you will have physiology pharmacology and advanced assessment, again this is done online and you will be required to read all materials on your own. In the physiology class there are ppt presentations or Youtube videos you can watch to get the basic understanding but this is only a fractions of the things you need to you. There will also be an On campus immersion in the second year in which you will learn basic assessment skills, how to write a SOAP note and how to conduct a visit. This is all done in 4 days. So be prepared. During your clinical rotations you are required to find your own perceptor. Don’t be fool they don’t really find you one. Lastly, there are HESI test which is suppose to be a mock of the board. There are three total and you are required to pass the test to pass the physiology, pharmacology and advance assessment.
pros of this program is online

cons grading is not standardize throughout the program. Although they have a rubic some teachers just give you all 100 while others go through every point on the rubic.

do not enter this program if you are not prepared to self motivate. No one will teach you. You are required to learn and ask questions during preceptorship.

I think overall you get what you pay for. I personally never thought I would go to a private for profit program for my fnp but I did and it’s not so bad. I didn’t learn as much but I believe it’s up to me as an individual to continue to grow as a professional. I was lucky that my preceptor taught me a lot. one thing I saw with this program wasn’t so bad compared to Azusa, western, or Phoenix because some how some of their students didn’t know as much as me. They gave me the same response it’s all self taught. I guess it doesn’t make me feel bad for picking USU because ultimate you are responsible for learning the didactic on your own

Thank you for this synopsis! I have been considering returning to school for my FNP online. I have looked at this school, as well as many other online programs. It seems to me, that many, like you said, are what you make of them. That being said, this one is regionally accredited in addition to CCNE, and it has the four day intensive. Therefore, I feel like it is somewhat better than other for profit schools in some respects.

In addition, the idea of returning to school has me freaked out a little bit. I have been a practicing nurse for over 20 years and have been working in school nursing for some time now. I had never even heard of HESI until I got on these boards! I just wonder how hard it will be to jump back in the saddle!

Despite that, I am planning to go for it and apply for Spring semester. So if anyone has any suggestions, FYIs, or important tidbits that could help me prepare~please share.

I'm a planner! It makes me feel more in control! TIA
