FNP new grad moving to ennis texas area

U.S.A. Texas

Hello,

I was not sure if this would be the best place to start the forum, but I am a recent FNP grad (graduated May 2012). I currently live in smaller town in CA where it has been difficult to find a position. I already have my license, certification, and am waiting for my furnishing number and DEA. My husband and I are contemplating moving to the Ennis area for his work and I was wondering if I would be able to find a job as an FNP either in primary care or pediatrics? Are NPs well respected in Texas? I have 5 years of ICU experience as an RN and was also wondering if I couldn't find a job as an FNP would it be difficult to find a job as an ICU RN. What is the typical nurse to patient ratio for ICU nurses in texas?

Thanks for any info you can provide! =)

Ennis is just south of DFW. Are you planning to live in Ennis or closer to DFW? If you are planning on commuting into the DFW area, it would make a big difference in your job prospects.

NPs are well respected here, as evidenced by the fact that state legislators just approved a liberalization of physician 'delegated authority' Coalition for Nurses in Advanced Practice.

We were thinking of living 20 minutes north of Ennis to allow me to commute to DFW if needed. I am relieved to hear that NPs are respected in TX. Are physicians who hire NPs usually okay with answering questions? Since I have not worked as an NP I am scared of finding a position where they will not answer questions or assist me. Also, I noticed that my FNP malpractice is twice as expensive in TX as compared to CA. Is malpractice more common or worse in TX? Thanks again!
