  1. I work in CA so we are always 2:1 and some days I don't get a break and only a few bites for lunch. It is unsafe. I know facilities are not interested in retainment with many areas not having a shortage; however, where is their concern for patient safety?

I also started out in ICU 7 years ago. It was overwhelming and intimidating, but asking questions and getting to know good resource people you work with is essential. Everyone on my unit was very supportive-teamwork is essential. I also agree studying for the CCRN is a good resource.
  3. I just finished CSUDHs FNP program May 2012. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions :)
  4. Your story sounds very similar to mine. I was an ICU nurse for 5 years, and am now back after a two year leave. There are a few new things, but overall its like I never left. Good luck!
  5. We were thinking of living 20 minutes north of Ennis to allow me to commute to DFW if needed. I am relieved to hear that NPs are respected in TX. Are physicians who hire NPs usually okay with answering questions? Since I have not worked as an NP I am scared of finding a position where they will not answer questions or assist me. Also, I noticed that my FNP malpractice is twice as expensive in TX as compared to CA. Is malpractice more common or worse in TX? Thanks again!
  6. Hello, I was also contemplating a position at a retail clinic? How do you like it so far? What are pros and cons? Hope you are loving the job!
  7. Hello, I was not sure if this would be the best place to start the forum, but I am a recent FNP grad (graduated May 2012). I currently live in smaller town in CA where it has been difficult to find a position. I already have my license, certification, and am waiting for my furnishing number and DEA. My husband and I are contemplating moving to the Ennis area for his work and I was wondering if I would be able to find a job as an FNP either in primary care or pediatrics? Are NPs well respected in Texas? I have 5 years of ICU experience as an RN and was also wondering if I couldn't find a job as an FNP would it be difficult to find a job as an ICU RN. What is the typical nurse to patient ratio for ICU nurses in texas? Thanks for any info you can provide! =)
