FNP looking for Acute care post graduate certificate

Specialties NP

Published

I am looking into post graduate certificates in acute care that are online. I am looking into a job that requires an acute care degree even though I currently work as an NP in an ICU and have 10 years of combined RN and NP ICU experience.

All help and suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Several of my co-workers are at St Louis University - 3 classes, 500 hours of clinical and you are done.

traumarus points out the thing you will not be able to avoid, no matter how long you've worked in an ICU: you have to do the 500 hours of clinical to sit for your certifying exam. That's the tough thing to schedule while you are still working full-time.

Yes indeed. I'm a peds and adult CNS who is actually IN an FNP program but on a leave of absence. I've completed two programs already for a total of 1200+ hours and now they want me to do another 500 hours. I've been an APRN for 9+ years now and just can't wrap my head around another 500 hours.
