FNP clinical sites

Published

Hi everyone,

I am currently in a FNP program and I am at the very end and we are responsible to find our own clinical sites. This is very frustrating because I have gone in so many places and no one wants to help and take a student. Does anyone have any suggestions where I can find a preceptor? I know some are paying for preceptors but I am a single mom and I really do not want to have to do that to finish my degree. I did find a couple however they were too specialized and the school would not allow it, which frustrated me more because its very hard to find one. If anyone has any suggestions pls let me I want to finish the program :)

Thank you,

Robin

I am currently in the same situation. I took a leave of absence last semester to seek out a preceptor. I've called and emailed clinical sites with no luck. Those NPs that are willing to assist were too new and unable to precept me. I contacted a site Clinical Match site and have not had any results with that either. I am currently at the point of requesting for another leave of absence or dropping the idea of becoming an NP for now. I only have clinicals to complete for my degree and finding a site has been the most difficult part of this program.

It's sad when finding preceptors is more difficult than the actual curriculum right?

Where did you get your advanced practice degree and did they help you find your clinical sites?

I'm a third-year FNP student and I still can't believe we have to find our own clinical site placements... I find it absolutely deplorable and nothing but a disgrace to the nursing profession! What other professions are required to find their own clinical placements/rotations?! Not MD/DO, PA, PharmD, DPT, nor DVM!!

Just this past semester I knew of students who were allowed to do their Adult/Geri clinical rotations while taking their Pediatric didactic because they weren't able to find Peds preceptors in time (or at all for that matter)! So, they'll have to do their Peds clinical during their Adult/Geri didactic this coming Fall 2018 semester, if they find one, of course (we can only hope!). And if they didn't take the offer mentioned above, they'd have to withdraw from the program and wait an entire year to start up again. Honestly, I'd do it too if I had no other options, rather than wait an entire year to start up again... It's completely absurd if you ask me!

I'm already stressing out about the thought of having to find an OB/GYN/Woman's Health clinical site for the Spring 2019 semester, as I've heard it's near impossible for male students.

***If anyone knows a OB/GYN/Woman's Health MD/DO/NP, office group, or clinic that is willing to take a male student in the Suffolk County, Long Island NY region then please message me ASAP! The deadline for placement is October 1st 2018***

Thanks in advance! :)

I think more NPs would like to precept, but are constrained by their facility's policies.

Before being accepted at a local B&M university, I had applied to some "reputable" online universities. I began talking to NPs with whom I worked about being a preceptor for me. All of them said they would be willing, but my institutions forbade it: They already had agreements in place with local universities to precept students.

I have spent a year here on Allnurses. I am saddened to read posts literally (not practically, not metaphorically, not figuratively...literally) begging for a preceptor. There has got to be a better way.
