FNP Board Exam Preparation

Hello all,

I am in great need of help to decide which NP exam to take.

1. I just graduated from FNP school and now I have to prepare for the board exam but I'm not sure which one to take...AANP or ANCC?

2. Also is there a review course that anyone can recommend? Please

3. For anyone who has taken the Fitzgerald review course, Is the Material including the manual the same information as the usual Fitzgerald FNP review book?

4. Any recommendations for books to study/read to prepare for the board exam?

5. Is there any specific books that are tailored toward ANCC exam or AANP exam?

Congratulations on your graduation!!

1. I suggest you look at each test blueprint - available on the AANP and the ANCC test sites. Which test do you believe your course of study prepared you for?

2. I took the live Fitzgerald review - and I liked it. I am also using BoardVitals for questions - they divide their questions geared toward each specific exam.

3. Some of the information from Fitzgerald live review can be found in her book, but the live review material is more extensive. She also has a lot of online resources that are part of the live review course.

4. I am using the live review, Fitzgerald book and Leik. Also doing BoardVitals questions for ANCC exam.

5. There are several books tailored to ANCC exam - their horribly expensive ANCC FNP review books (not worth the money, information can be found elsewhere). Not sure about the AANP exam - although I think Hollier and the APEA q-bank questions are more closely aligned with AANP vs ANCC

I tend to try and over-prepare for anything - but don't pick so many different resources that you are bouncing all over the place trying to study. Review the books, answer the questions. Consult other source material when you aren't clear on rationales. Go back, and review again. Then start answering test bank questions. If you find there are specific questions you are answering wrong - go back and review that section again.

Congrats on your graduation!!!

I'm going to follow this. Have taken AANP twice this year and failed by 7 points each time. I have done Hollier live, twice online, and have the audio review (bootleg given to me). The Hollier review seems tailored toward AANP. I've done the Leik book and read Fitzgerald. I've also done the FNP Mastery app. These seem more in line with ANCC.

I will now be taking ANCC and have purchased the "pink books". The pink books and Leik are down, dirty and easy to read. Some classmates have done BoardsVitals and have passed.

AANP (for me) had no pictures and was heavy on women's health, adolescents, derm, and frail elderly. The ANCC exam blueprint seems fairly divided between clinical content and reasearch/theory/culture.
