Hello everyone,

I have to give teaching presentation on fluids and electrolytes and I am feeling frustrated. It is a lot of information about fluids and electrolytes. I don't know what to

focus on since I only have 10 minutes to do my teaching. Please advice me.

thanx in advance.

i would suggest that you go through the fluid and electrolyte links that are on this thread, particularly post #24

and decide on a subject that interests you. in particular, look at the sites that have fluid and electrolyte or acid/base tutorials. there are many subjects within the fluid and electrolyte category from simple chemistry to abgs to the difference between acidosis and alkalosis. you could also do something on iv fluids (see post #22 on https://allnurses.com/forums/f205/any-good-iv-therapy-nursing-procedure-web-sites-127657.html for information on hypotonic, isotonic and hypertonic iv fluids). another idea would be to look at the electrolytes that are reported on a basic electrolyte profile and report on what the normal levels should be and what high or low levels indicate as well as clinical signs and symptoms of these conditions. you can get that information from the lab weblinks on this thread: https://allnurses.com/forums/f205/medical-disease-information-treatment-procedures-test-reference-websites-258109.html

it's a long weekend. happy learning!

Do you have to do F&E AND acid base?

Which fluid and electrolytes subject do you have? Acid/Base, K, Ca, Mg?

mostly about the mani thing about main things about each electrolyte: what it mainly does, which other lytes it

likes to go up and down with and which it opposes.

for example, ca and phos are opposites. when one is up, the other is down so they could be "enemies". but k, ca and mg tend to go up and down together, so they could be "friends".

If you just have to do main things, just talk about the main things. All the main things are right there in your notes or textbooks. Take a deep breath and relax and you'll do fine.
