Flu shot ??

How amny people are going to get their flu shot? Anyone already got it? Our teacher has preached to our class about getting one. I have never had one nor have I ever had the flu. One classmate told us that her Dr wont give them till Oct. Then I heard that one of the teachers at school ( classroom across from mine..plus I go in there every day as I have many friends in that class) she has the flu, both strains A and B . Should I try to find someone to give me that shot this next week? Are there any side effects from getting it? Thanks :)

I got my first flu shot 12 years ago (I was immunosuppressed brom breast cancer treatments) and the next year I thought I wouldn't bother since "I'm fine now". Then I remembered having the real influenza as a senior nursing student at the University of Michigan back in 1962. I've never been so sick in my life. So, yes, I get one annually and as a matter of fact, I give them also. As a school nurse, we run the town Flu clinic. I'm also a great believer in "herd immunity".

For myself, it's not something I believe in. I was the only one who didn't get it last week from my clinical group. It was my choice. I did end up giving a lot of them to employees and patients last week, so people are doing it.

I will be getting mine at the VA medical center in November. It's free plus I don't want to have a flu this year. Just 2 weeks ago I got the norovirus. I was on a cruise ship for 7 days and after 3 days I had the virus, what an awful 36-48 hrs that was. I washed my hands constantly but that didn't help much. I do not want to feel sick again this winter. Especially when I start school, being stressed is the green light to sickness.
