Tampa/W. Coast Students Roll Call!

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Per Mave's request... here's a post for all Tampa and W. Coast students! :)

Where are you studying? And when did you start/ or will start?

Good idea. I'm thinking that if they didn't mention it, then there isn't a particular dress code. So jeans and a nice top is a safe bet.

Final semester (thank God) USF ABSN student here. Orientation for us wasn't formal at all. I drove down from Atlanta the day of my orientation, so I was very casually dressed and so were most of the other students. So, I'd say just wear whatever makes u comfortable, or if ur really worried about it, call the CON and ask. Welcome and congrats!

I went to USF's ABSN orientation yesterday. It was shorter than I thought it would be, from 9:00 to 12:00. It was a little overwhelming with how the speakers were saying how hard the program was and it seems like we are going to be studying all the time.

Anyway, the question I am getting to is, are any of you who are at USF in this program first-time students at USF? If so, did you have to attend the orientation for new students at USF (not the nursing one, but the longer orientation)? A fellow future classmate asked this question because she had talked to someone at the school, and they said she didn't have to attend it. It would be a huge relief for me, as I am not in the area and would have to make another drive over there (plus I am working full-time for a few more months).

I am currently a nursing student at Keiser RN program and I am looking to transfer because I will be moving to the Tampa area. I have researched several school's one being Keiser Lakeland campus because they have the same RN program. My problem is I am trying to make this transition go smooth and I cannot get a straight answer from Lakeland can I simply change campuses and continue with my studies the admission counselor is telling me I would be ahead on the waiting list because I am already in the program but it seem's like they are trying to make me pay another registration fee. Are the school's in Tampa really hard to get into? and what is the deal with Galen? I have been calling them for 2 weeks and no answer. :monkeydance:

Any help I would greatly appreciate it

Galen is in a huge growing phase right now. They have recently gotten their permanent accreditation and are increasing their class size. They're probably just a bit overwhelmed. They also give very little info over the phone. I can't imagine them transfering your credits in, they have so many people wanting to get in right now that they just don't have to accomodate people like that yet. I can't say for sure though. Ask for Dawn Coles.. or at least leave a call back on her voice mail. She's one of the admitting counselors there. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply I am actually in contact with Dawn at Galen and I am pretty much ready to move forward. I just need to get a accurate date on my spouse transfer to Tampa - He is in corrections,

How is Galen program Do they have a good reputation for the LPN and RN programs

Also because I will postively be moving forward for my BSN after my

associate in Nursing - will I have to take these Gen course again or will I be able to transfer them out.

I have decided to obtain my CNA and use that while studying for my LPN, and gradually move up the ladder to my RN - ASN - BSN and then Master's

Does anyone know the closest area to USF where I can take a CPR course (BLS for Healthcare Providers)?

The CPR certification has to be through the American Heart Association.

Thank you!

Sehshun - it's not really about where you take it, it's when. Type in both the zip code where you're at now and USFs into the class locator at the AHA's website (it takes a minute of digging around on the website to find it - I don't remember eactly how anymore). All you'll get is a list of locations and phone numbers, and then you have to call them all. Some offer classes only every month or two, or on a day of the week that you can't attend. Call several, see which ones have times that work for you and your deadline to have the cert, and then pick the one that's most convenient as far as timing and location. I took mine in Town and Country, which is nowhere near my house or USF, but it was the only class I could get into on short notice.
