Tampa/W. Coast Students Roll Call!
Galen is in a huge growing phase right now. They have recently gotten their permanent accreditation and are increasing their class size. They're probably just a bit overwhelmed. They also give very little info over the phone. I can't imagine them transfering your credits in, they have so many people wanting to get in right now that they just don't have to accomodate people like that yet. I can't say for sure though. Ask for Dawn Coles.. or at least leave a call back on her voice mail. She's one of the admitting counselors there. Good luck!

Harassment?
Doesn't sound much like "team playing" if the team didn't get to come up with the exercise. Maybe they (facility) could fork over the bucks to buy everyone the same colored (not white) tops with the logo on them? And everyone could wear them on Fridays or something. At our facility the ER manager ordered t-shirts with this awesome ER logo on them (black t-shirts with sorta flames behind them). They would wear them on Fridays and the rest of us were so jealous because they were so cool! Or how about even picking a color besides white? How about a royal blue scrub day? Sounds to me like there's someone "higher up" that prefers nurses in white and once you all start wearing it on a regular basis will say, "see, doesn't that look better? Now you should wear it everyday!".... slippery slope there. :uhoh21:

What does "provisional" status mean?
Just a side note, many of the state colleges have "provisional status" on some of their programs. It just means that they have a process to go through, certain amount of graduates have to pass boards, etc. If the state allows the graduates of that school to sit for RN or LPN boards then what difference does it make? You'll still be an RN or LPN.

Art lines in the ED
You mean all that should happen in the ER right? Cuz all it does is cause problems in ICU. There are no docs hanging around in there.:uhoh21:

Art lines in the ED
Which is really too bad. You have the Doc's down there to do it. I dread when we get a patient into ICU who's got order for gtts, ABTS, IVF, blood transfusions, stat and one angiocath in the only accessible vein. That means we have to call the admitting, get an order for a central line, call the surgeon, hope it won't be too many hours before they get there. Anesthesia will sometimes put them in, depends on which group we have in-house at the time. For Art lines, sometimes RT can do them, depends on who's working and how long it takes to get an order. It just seems to me, it would be easier if they're that sick, put the line in while they're in the ER and you have a Doc right there to do it. Am I wrong?

LPN's in Florida Hospitals
They go through phases here in Florida where they try to phase them out but there aren't enough RNs to go around and eventually they hire more LPNs.

ALL About Staffing - HCA hospitals
Some of these hospitals will push the limits of safety and ethics, and they don't have to care if something bad happens during an unsafe patient assignment because they can legally put all of the blame on you. At our facility the union has provided an "unsafe staffing" form that we fill out if we feel the staffing is unsafe for any reason. We list the reason why, give a copy to our Sup. and retain a copy for ourselves. No, its not fail-safe, but at least it shows that we tried to avoid the problem and notified our supervisor in advance and they did nothing about it.

ALL About Staffing - HCA hospitals
No, but it is a great area! I have family over in Port St Lucie, but none of them are medical personnel so I don't know how the hospital systems are. Its a strange area in that there are a lot of migrant farm workers and a lot of newly rich folks. Makes for some great diversity (and good restaurants!)

ALL About Staffing - HCA hospitals
We did just vote the union in this year. Of course, negotiations are not going well and there is talk of a one-day strike. I'm sure it will be a long time before there are any improvements in patient-staff ratios.

ALL About Staffing - HCA hospitals
All the "good members" are leaving, including myself. Three patients a piece in ICU (Vents, gtts, swans.. doesn't matter to them) no aides, no secretaries, no monitor techs. You can only do so much.

ALL About Staffing - HCA hospitals
I've worked for HCA for 10 years. The pay is good regardless of how loyal you are to them. They pay based on years experience. Just know that 90% of the time you will work short-staffed. 30% of that 90%... will be REALLY short-staffed! I'm almost done with my LPN to RN program and then I will never, never, work in another HCA facility.

Tips for looking more professional
Just FYI, they're the same thing. Bare Minerals is produced by Bare Essentuals. Check and see if you have a Sephora store near you or you can get them on the QVC website. I prefer Sephora, then I don't have to pay for shipping

Hello Mr. VIP! I'm your servant nurse for the night!
Nope, nope, nope. What I tell the charge nurse/supervisor/whoever is that this patient will get as good care as my other patients, (who are just as important to ME) and they will NOT have any special treatment. If they want an orifice-smacker, find someone else. I would have told this person that their arm did not shrink when they were admitted and that they are perfectly capable of holding their own drinking glass. I would tell them that I will be in every hour to check on them and see to their needs but do NOT put on that call light unless you really need to take me away from my duties. I will be perfectly happy to attend to their needs if they really are NEEDS and not wants. Its funny how these patients tend to respect nurses who are a little more strict with them than the ones who jump every time they say boo.
