I will be moving to FL from MI. Does anyone know about how long it takes to get license in FL and are you able to work in the state you are currently licensed in until your FL license comes through?

Generally its taking about 2 months to get licensed in FL from another state via endorsement. About a year ago I got a temporary in about a month. You can only practice on that for 90 days or so. FYI Florida in known at times to take longer so its best to start the process well ahead of time.

You are applying for licensure by endorsement, you will not be giving up your MI license, but gaining a second license. So, sure, you can work in MI until you get youre license in Florida and actually when ever you want, provided that you keep the license up.

Hi, I just moved to jacksonville, FL from MI in Dec. I took about 5 wk first I got a temp license the about a week later got the perm. I did need 3 CEU classes that FL requires a Dr. had to sign my ap stating that I'm phys and metally OK and had to get finger printed. Once I got everything together the process went fairly quick. Good luck! I hope you like it here, I do the weather is great and I sure don't miss snow. I've only been here about 3 wks and am currently job hunting. hope I find one I like. Unfortunally I left a job I loved, so I'm afraid I won't be as happy with whatever I find, but i sure hope so. Have a good trip Lori

You just go to the Florida BON website and find the applicaiton for "License by Endorsement." Just follow the steps listed there. Quite simple.
Go here~ http://www.doh.state.fl.us/Mqa/nursing/nur_applications.html. They will send you everything you need. when you get your packet read carefully if you don't get it right it will delay the process. They send everything you need for endorsememt but also send everything for first time applicant so you don't need everything in the packet. Hope you enjoy it here in Jax. Lori
