Hello everyone. I am writing because I need help with some questions. I am doing pre reqs at MDC in Miami and I am going through my career plan. I am very stressed out because as of today, I hear that MDC is a very hard program to get into because of the number of people that apply. I am worried that after all the hard work I am doing, I might get wait listed or even rejected. Currently I have a 2.88 GPA (On a scale up to 4.0) which I know is not that great but I am looking to raise it to at least 3.0. Is anyone familiar with the program at MDC and If I get rejected, what should I do. Did anyone get rejected and if so what did you do? I am very worried because I am trying to finish this ASAP as I am eager to start my career. ANy advice would greatly help, thanks, Humby

I was rejected of MDC 5x's.
Yes, I had 5 rejection letters from MDC, a 3.33GPA & an extreme high desire to become an RN.......... and I still made it to be an RN!
The GPA cut off that they accept is a 3.8GPA or above. for the Generic program.
If you get rejected from MDC just look for other schools that will take you in.
I ended up at Broward College, and it was the best thing I ever did.
It was a far drive- but for me it was worth every mile, every penny I spent on the turnpike to get there!
Wow. Thanks bumblebee. I am really worried about it but allas, I have also heard about broward college. I suppose any school will do.
as long as you do your homework regarding the school. Look for the accreditation status, and compare those accreditation agencies to state schools. ask the state schools if they will take your credits too-
I was almost gonna go to a school where they told me that barry accepted their students after their AA, and when I called barry, they never even heard of the school.

Hi there,
I too am doing prereqs at MDC. All I can say is that a 2.8 will not get you in, even if you get a 3.0. :/ I am sorry. But Bumblebee's advice was the best. Just look at other schools. Look at FIU. It shouldn't be too far from you if you are in MDC. FIU is a pretty nice school from what I've heard.
Also, try BCC like Bumblebee, many MDC students end up there because it is easier to get into, but has a super nice program! :) Nova is also really good but it is very expensive. And you could always transfer to UF, USF, FGCU, or UM.

just found out my wife has a 50/50 chance of being transferred, if she's transferred we are about 95% sure its to Miami. My cumulative GPA is only about a 2.6, I have a BS in Business where I mostly made C's from 2003. I got accepted into a BSN program in Missouri this year because they look at pre-req GPA (A & P, nutrition, chem, microbiology and a couple other classes) where I had a 3.1 GPA. I'm also CNA certified. I'm waiting to see if we have to move before accepting my admission.
So in your opinion, would I be accepted into any Miami area programs with the following???
1. about a 3.0-3.2 in pre-reqs depending on what classes count into pre-req GPA
2. about a 2.6 cumulative GPA
3. a BS in business
4. Missouri CNA certification (could transfer this to FL)

1. not at all, you need a 3.8 or more for miami dade college
for CNA you have to look into www.myflorida.com and search nursing and look at the rules of transfering certifications.
you may be able to get into BC but that is in broward not in miami
yes it seems miami dade is one of the more competitive ones, about half the programs in my area have similar requirements, I'll check BC and other surrounding schools :).
