flooding in texas

okay, i was contemplating moving to tx, i.e. houston. doing some research today, i saw that tx has a problem with flooding. is this every area of tx, or is it limited to certain regions. i was looking for sun year round. im not interested in ca or fl. this is discouraging, can you guys help me out. :confused:

Flooding can be a problem in every area of Houston. During the flood a major part of the city was affected, but that was a MAJOR flood. I would say there is information you can find specifically to Houston and it's flooding, but I am not sure where you can find it. You can also locate area flood maps with FEMA. They map flood zones. Insurance companies also usually have a good idea, as they had to pay out an abundance of claims during Allision(flood in Houston about 3 years ago). Hope that helps a little bit. Otherwise, don't let the rain stop you from coming to Texas!!! It's great here!!!

I grew up in Houston and return qmonth to visit family. It's h-u-m-i-d! Afternoon t-storms are the norm, especially spring-fall (sea breeze showers). I definately don't think Houston is the sunniest part of Tx (though it's not like Seattle either). If you're looking for sun, you might consider Central or S. Texas (the Valley).

Personally, I love Austin more than any other part of the state (I've lived all over). If you can stand the [all] seasonal allergies! The weather is great most of the time. Great vibe & funky.

Hi there! I'v lived in Montgomery Texas, about 45 miles north of Houston, I go to school on the west side of houston and am about to have my LVN in Aug. :) . If your looking for some place thats got lots of sun and pretty good weather, than this is a good place for you. Yes it dose have rain, but the EL Ninyo (Spelling???) years are when we get more. I have never flooded and I live two blocks from Lake Conroe. My husband works in Houston and has only been bothered by rerouting to work once or twice. I don't think you'll live in downtown Houston were there is flooding, so chances are you would be able to find a really nice house and be happy. FYI, I'm from Illinois, and I'v been here in Texas since 1996, and I wouln't want to be anywere else. The work is pretty good around here, and the cost of living is pretty good. A house up north that goes for say 200,000 is more like 125,000 -,150,000 down here. Pay seems better to, My aunt in Wesconsin says the LVN makes about 12-15 an hour there, but they are starting around 17 and up here. Thats new LVN of course, I know some in 20's. Houston is great if you like 100% humidity and 95 to 100 degrees in the months of June thru September. Fall and Spring are great here though. Winter is pretty mild.
