Flo Valley nursing program Fall 2013

U.S.A. Missouri

Published

I got my letter to start the nursing program this August 2013! I am excited and very nervous at the same time. I was hoping to communicate with some of my future nursing program classmates. I think it will help me to meet or talk with at least one other student. So if you will be starting this Fall, reply to this posting. Thanks!

I signed up for my classes yesterday and got approved with financial aid! Yea!! The nursing books still aren't in yet but I bought a few laminated study guides with medical math, medical terminology, nurse terminology, and medical accronyms. I also bought a book that is for learning how to write up health assessments on patients. It was on sale for 5.00 dollars! I have been doing NCLEX practice questions online to get familiar with the format of future tests. I don't have a health care background at all so I feel that I need to read up on some things to get a little familiar. I was also told to buy a double barrel stethoscope by another woman that works as a CNA and is in nursing school.

Nice to meet you Tiara! Nursing school is going to be hard for all of us and the time schedules. I have other responsibilities and a 14 month old son as well. I think it all comes down to family support. I hope that you don't have to work full time during this semester. I understand if you have to though...I am going to get a lot of help from my family and my boyfriend during this semester. I am also pretty much going to be living with my mom and step dad as well so that they can watch my son often. His dad will be watching him after work and staying with my parents as well most nights. It will definitely be a big change...the most important thing though is never giving up...never saying I can't do it...and never saying no to your inner will!! I have worked so hard to get on the list and now being excepted a year early...we have to go above and beyond everyday with the help of family and friends in our lives. I would suggest lining up babysitters now that are reliable and dependable and make sure that everyone in your life realizes what we are about to begin!

You already received for financial aid money? I would like all those study guides you just mentioned. Did you purchase them at the school? What online NCLEX questions are you doing? Sorry for all the questions just trying to get prepared and all those materials sound like a good start.

Secondly, is the double barrel stethoscope meaning the double tube? If so, I have one but hate it and its cheap. Littman is the best but all their's are single tube and light which I will be purchasing.

Oh and how much was your financial aid approved for?

Ya I purchased them at the school in the bookstore. The nursing books are in too, and I got those today. My financial aid is like $3000 dollars for the year I believe. Enough for all my classes. Ya and I meant double tube but I'm guessing that there are cheap ones in every style. I haven't bought one yet. You can look up NCLEX questions online on google and a who bunch of sample questions come up. You could spend hours getting use to the sample questions and the format.

Ok you going to the workshop on July 9th?

Yes I am planning on going to all 3 workshops this month and the social gathering as well. I guess we can meet on the 9th. Do you have a lap top that you are planning on using for class, lab pictures, studying? I am planning on buying one because I have never had my own and I feel it will help me. Just wanted another opinion on it I guess. The summer is going so fast and I am happy I am starting nursing school but at the same time nervous about if I will do well enough. I got 5 of the nursing books so far and they are heavy and big. I still have to buy the bundle package when it comes in which is 3 or 4 more books.

Ya im supposed to go to the workshop of the 9th. My girlfriends grandmother just passed now I have to go to the funeral in Arkansas. Hope I can get out of going. Anyways im not using and laptop, im using my tablet much easier and lighter. As far as books I usually buy mine on Amazon, book store over prices things.

Update: I will be at the workshop tomorrow. I called Ann, im assuming we have to make an appointment to attend. I called and left a message. You guys going?

I went to the workshop on the July 9th and I feel like I learned and found out about a bunch of stuff. I am planning on going tomorrow which is the critical thinking workshop I believe. I met about 5 other future nurses at the last workshop and am looking forward to meeting more people. We will all have to stick together and and put our heads together to get through these 2 years! Good luck to everyone.

I should be joining you guys in the Spring, so let me know what your fall classes are like...I'm nervous!!!

It's the LPN-RN Bridge Program. We start in the Spring, but they moved it to Meramec this time due to staffing.
