FSCJ/FCCJ point system/withdrawing

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to find someone who has information on the FSCJ ( formerly FCCJ) point system for the RN program. It's almost as if the formula is top secret. I will be applying for the Spring 2011 semester, I'll be done with my prereqs this summer. I also wanted to ask if anyone has withdrawn from a class? Does it look bad when applying? I'm considering withdrawing from Micro and just taking it in the fall since you only have to be enrolled in it to apply. It's the reason why I'm concerned with the point system at this moment, I'd like to calculate my points to see where I stand.

Any other FSCJ/FCCJ Spring 2011 hopefuls out there???:)

I could be mistaken, but I believe that I saw a post from someone who actually scored higher than 120 on the NAT. They said that they talked with the dean and was told that they would be able to use all the points for the calculation for acceptance. Just something I ran across on one of these threads, not sure which one it was.

I scored a 112.64 the first and only time I have taken the test. If you retake the test, they will use the higher of the scores used in the calculations. For instance if the reading comprehension has a better raw score the second time you take the test, but the natural science has a better raw score the first time, they will use the first natural science score and the second reading comp score to calculate your final score.

After you take the test, you must wait at least three months before taking the test again, and you can only take the test twice in a single year.

Hope this helps some...:)

I to am taking the test tomorrow morning at Kent and I am so nervous. I heard that you should take the HOT test first to see how it is the test for the NAT will run. I also have friends that say just get in there and take it and see how you do. I am like the previous post'r that said that she took classes and did not retain them after. I have 90 so far and that is without taking Micro. I really don't want to take the test again in three months but I am not sure if this is just a sign if I pass or not. I am having an equally hard time with the decisions I make. I would love to get into the program in the Spring but I am not sure that they would accept me while I am in the Micro program now in the fall. I really hope this teacher they talk about at Kent is not as bad as I have heard. I am not a science major or math but I am good with dosage calculations and nursing as I was a CNA before but they won't use that since I was a CNA 12 years ago. I think that sucks as I know how to address the patient when treating them. I just don't know.

Wilbur, are you referring to the Raw Score (Academic Aptitude + Reading Comprehension + Natural Sciences) before multiplying it by .64 for the points calculation?

How many total possible raw score points are in each section of the NAT? For example, if you made a perfect score (raw score, before the .64 adjustment), what are the total available points for each section?

Verbal - 30?

Arithmetic - 30?

Nonverbal - 30?

Total Academic Aptitude = 90?

Reading Comprehension = 35?

Natural Sciences - 90?

Grand Total possible = 215?

I found the answer in some old notes I took during the "Information Session":

Academic Aptitude - 90

Reading Comprehension - 40

Natural Science - 90

NAT Total Possible Points = 220

So total possible Quality Points on an FSCJ RN Nursing Program application:

Prerequisites = 120 points (all grades = A)

PSB-NAT score - 220 x .64 = 140.8 points

Health-related work experience = 20 points

Grand Total possible/available points = 280.8 points

What counts as health-related work experience? Is it strictly clinical (eg, CNA, MA, etc)? I have 10 years of experience in pharmaceutical/medical device sales. Does that count for anything? My work experience affords me a strong knowledge of A&P, Pharmacology, clinic works with patients, etc. Not sure if that would count for anything.

What counts as health-related work experience?

From the second page (back side) of the FSCJ Associate Degree Nursing (RN) application:

"Work Experience

Applicants to the generic track who have work experience as a licensed practical nurse, medical corpsman, respiratory therapist, EMT, paramedic, or FCCJ-trained medical assistant only may receive five points for each year of work experience up to a maximum of four years. This work experience must be within the past five years, be documented on employer stationary [sic] and include beginning and ending dates of employment. Work must be actual hands-on experience involving assessing, formulation, implementing, and evaluating plans of client care."
