FIU Nursing Fall 2016. Do I have a shot?

Published

Hey guys, I'm new here, and was looking for some advice. I'm currently finishing the last of my pre-req's at FIU, and plan on applying for Fall. I haven't taken the TEAS yet, I will in a couple of weeks. I currently have a 3.14 Cumulative and a 2.99 Nursing GPA (All B's in Pre-req's, with a C+ in Physiology lab). Sucks, I know. BUT, on the other hand, I have over 500+ hours working as a Med Assistant and as a Medical Biller (sending claims to Medicare), as well as a solid leadership position at FIU's Center for Leadership and Service. Is there any hope for me? I know I need to do well on the TEAS, I just wanted to know of any success stories about getting into FIU's program. I'm also applying to Nova, Barry, and West Coast.

Hey :) I applied for the BSN program at FIU as well this year. Did you take the TEAS already? What did you score? I am not sure how strict FIU are at their rules so I am not sure to be honest. Here's what I mean based on their admission minimum requirements:

Associates in Arts (AA) from a Florida communitycollege or completion of the FIU core curriculum.

Transfer students must successfully meet all FIUundergraduate admissions requirements.

Minimum cumulative GPA 3.25 or higher.

Successful completion of the nursing entranceexam with passing scores.

Your cumulative GPA is under 3.25 so your chances of getting in FIU is not likely. I also checked Barry's minimum requirements and theirs says a 3.2 cumulative GPA. BUT you definitely meet nova's (must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA) and West Coast's minimum requirements (must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA)! :) Plus all of those volunteer hours you have will work for your advantage for sure. The only sucky thing will NOVA is they do not use TEAS and if they take you in you would have to do a separate exam with them. Still, i think if you studied for teas you'd be ok because it is also an Eng/Sci/Math/Grammar kinda test. I believe it is Kaplan. Idk.. i was accepted and declined them for spring term this year to hopefully get in FIU for fall. Big risk I took there lol... i hope i dont regret it x.x I wish you luck though!!! I really hope you get in one of them.
